The first edition of the BPS quarterly networking luncheon took place in April 2013 with over 30 organizations participating, and the Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Mr. Antwi Boasiako Sekyere also participating as our Star Guest also referred to as the “surprise visitor”.
The two-hour event kicked off with a card pool where each participant dropped their call card into a bowl and proceed to ‘mingle’ with other participants. After about 30 minutes of personal introductions and ‘mingling’, the house was called to order. The Executive Director of the Bureau, Nana Yaw Akwada then led a formal introduction of each participant after which participants entreated themselves to a buffet of local and continental dishes.
As participants enjoyed their lunch the various speakers took turns to address the house on the subject ” Workplace Accidents: What the Law states”.
After all the insightful deliveries, lasting about 45 minutes, participants who by now have finished emptying their plates and bowls engaged all the speakers in a very lively, thoughtful and deep interactive Q&A session; spanning across a very academic realms through to professional and practical realms.
The “Star Guest” Honorable Deputy Minister for Employment, Mr. Antwi Boasiako-Sekyere took his turn to address the gathering. He intimated how impressed he is about Safety and Health initiatives being pursued by the Bureau of Public Safety. He stated that the enthusiasm with which Safety professionals and other stakeholders, including high level management, are embracing such initiatives is encouraging and must be sustained. Furthermore he reminded the gathering that very soon the Occupational Safety and Health policy will be passed and the workplace will become more sanitized and the job of the Safety and Health professional will be clearly cut out for them.
In closing the session, Nana Yaw Akwada, the Executive Director reminded participants to look out for another ‘electrifying’ network session in September.
