Managing the factors that influence workers decision to engage in risky behaviors (decision-to-err) is challenging.
About 80-95% of injuries and illnesses are caused by at-risk-behaviors (unsafe acts). Experts have suggested that if unsafe behaviors can be modified, injuries and illnesses will be significantly reduced and/or eliminated.
In this Networking Session, participants will be walked through some common yet critical factors that influence workers to put themselves and others in harm’s way.
It will also delve into organizational and psycho-social factors that influence at-risk-behavior and detail-out effective strategies, basic corrective measures and tricks which managers and other stakeholders can employ at the enterprise level to influence and improve working practices of workers.
SPEAKERS
- DR. STEPHEN ANKAMAH-LOMOTEY, a Metropolitan Director of Factories Inspectorate Department; he has extensive knowledge of the regulatory framework of health and safety environment in Ghana. He will be speaking on “occupational and environmental factors that influence at-risk-behavior”.
- DR. KWESI AMPONSAH-TAWIAH, an Occupational Health Psychologist and Lecturer at the Department of Organization and Human Resource Management (OHRM), University of Ghana Business School, will be speaking on the sub-topic “psycho-social factors that influence at-risk-behavior”.
